Agriturismo . . . What is it All About? (2 MIN READ)

You may or may not have heard of one, but we promise it is a must-do experience!

Agriturismo can loosely be translated to “farm-stay”. We say loosely because there are two types:

Firstly: a farm that has been converted to have a main house and many guest houses/apartments around it. There is usually the option to have breakfast and dinner in the main house where most of the food is grown on the property

Often times there is beautiful outdoor space and offered activities. There is generally parking and the idea is that you can either rent a car and use your days to explore or there may be a shuttle bus from the property to the closest town so that you can decide what to do from there.

This is a wonderful option for those: looking for a peaceful retreat, being outside the center, in a more natural setting. Also if you are traveling with kids there may be the option of a full service kitchen, washing machine, as well as outdoor space and enough space to not feel cramped.

Second: a farm that has a restaurant. Everything that you eat is usually produced on site, pigs, chickens, vegetables, cheese, wine.

It is the ultimate farm to table experience as well as a popular Sunday outing for Italians. Some operate as a restaurant and cook on demand where you reserve a table and order.

Others do seatings, especially on Sundays. They’ll tell you the time to be there, often times there is a lunch and also a dinner seating. You’ll be seated the same way you would at a restaurant and the menu is comprised of what is fresh and in season.

While they are not in a city it doesn’t mean they are not well-located. Some are just a 15 minute drive outside of a city or town.

It is a must-do, see and try!
